Meditation, Mindfulness & Mysticism
What is Meditation and Mindfulness?
Who hasn’t had a million thoughts swirling around in their head at once: Will I have to work late? What am I doing for dinner? Will I be late to a doctor’s visit? And on and on. It’s a pattern that can be hard to break. Similarly, a habit of ruminating on the past can clog our thoughts, lead to stress, and increase our chances of becoming ill with dis-ease. Practicing mindfulness and meditation (or mindful meditation!) is a positive way to counter the chatter in our heads, calm ourselves, and help us respond to life’s inevitable challenges. Meditation is the practice of mindfulness; just as mindfulness supports meditation, meditation nurtures mindfulness. Mindfulness is the quality of being present in the moment, rather than being in the past or future. We become aware of our sensations, thoughts, and feelings—minus distraction or judgment. When practiced regularly, we can apply mindfulness to our everyday lives for better health and happiness. Mindful meditation is also beneficial to emotional and physical health and a cornerstone of our holistic wellness programs.
