What is Mind & body wellness?

Our thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and attitudes can positively or negatively affect our biological functioning. In other words, our physical wellness can be affected by our minds.

On the other hand, what we do with our physical body (what we eat, how much we exercise, even our posture) can impact our mental state (again positively or negatively). This results in a complex interrelationship between our minds and bodies.

This relationship is commonly referred to as the mind-body connection.

Since stress and anxiety cause disruption and interference in the mind-body connection, understanding these patterns and “how anxiety works” is essential to restore balance and health. Anxiety is a natural survival mechanism; a response to a perceived threat, a trigger to a potentially life-saving fight or flight response. It’s just part of life to feel anxious on occasion—from daily stresses such as relationship problems, financial issues, work or school issues, or a medical situation. Frequent negative self-talk, such as “I’m a failure” or “there’s something wrong with me,” can also cause anxiety. But we are simply not built to live in a frequent state of anxiety. Unfortunately, modern life has made this all too common. While some people experience severe or generalized anxiety, even infrequent everyday stress can be damaging, not just to our minds, but also to our bodies and spiritual wholeness. Physical symptoms—such as a racing heart, changing breathing patterns, and other biochemical processes—can add to our emotional distress and deplete our vital energy. Therapy and medications are common ways to deal with anxiety.
